So, yesterday I did something equal parts fun and super cool: I hosted a chemistry session at a school.
Usually, when people hear words like enthalpy or bond energy, their eyes instantly glaze over and they start thinking about literally anything else (honestly, fair). But here’s the thing – chemistry isn’t just balancing equations until your hand cramps. It’s literally about how much raw energy is trapped inside the world around us.
To prove that point, I decided to go all out and talk about HEDMs (High-Energy Density Materials). Yep, we basically spent an entire class talking about the science behind rocket fuels, massive energy storage, and things that go b00oom.
Turns out, once you show people that chemical bonds are basically tiny springs waiting to snap and release crazy amounts of heat, everyone actually pays attention. Who knew?
